it all depends if mainstream picks it up. I noticed one thing, songs with longetivity usually do well in mainstream airplay.

I don't think it did too badly, considering how left field it was. It was kind of a bold choice for a single, IMO, but it paid off since it was a Top 5 hit. Just goes to show that consistently decent sales and airplay will go much farther than smashing for two minutes.

It went platinum, but it had 100 million AI+ for a while. IMO it should be closer to double platinum than it is.

I mean, I'm happy Drake got another platinum single (), but compared to the amount of radio support it got, the sales are kinda underwhelming.

I guess blame piracy then... I have no statistics/evidence, but I would assume hip-hop/rap songs are among the most illegally downloaded, considering its audience is young and tech-savvy.

Drake doesn't sell extremely well digitally, does he?

"Forever" did about 2.1 million and "Best I Ever Had" sold about 1.8 million. That's chump change digitally.

From what I can tell, hardcore rap fans buy an album when something is at stake.

Example: Kanye vs. 50, or getting Lil Wayne to sell A Milli.

Other than that, the casual listener seems content with the singles.

It got enough pop support to sell like a regular pop hit though IMO. I personally heard/hear it all the time.

That seems to be true. Good point.

But I think Eminem is an exception. Relapse sold off of the comeback factor. Recovery, on the other hand, didn't really have the comeback factor. I guess it's selling due to Em's star power, radio success, etc.
