Kats keep saying "pop music is just pop music" without realizing that's exactly the author's point. I don't get why it's so hard for them to understand that some people like their music and popstars to have more depth to them. In one sentence they admit to Katy being a simple popstar and then in the next get mad when people say she's a simple popstar.
