There are 52 countries in Asia and I'm pretty sure most of them don't speak Chinese as a native language. Or did you think people in Thailand, India, the Philippines, etc. speak the same language?

In any case, this thread is clearly about pop stars in the US as indicated by the title. Why would an Asian-American release Chinese songs?

Part of it has to do with Asia having very viable, loyal markets and the record labels being afraid to lose that.

SM could've easily made BoA or Girls' Generation or TVXQ happen here if they really pushed them. Instead, Asian labels release a song digitally in the U.S., don't send it to radio and then let their artists perform two or three times as promo and that's it.

THIS THIS AND THIS. Do people not realize that there are Americans who are of Asian descent? Like is it really that hard to comprehend that when Asian Americans are asking for representation in the media, it doesn't always mean a crossover success story from KPOP.

Because in asian culture, being a singer or actor is not a 'mainstream' career choice. The asian parents won't willing to pay a lot for their kids' on music or acting. They think being a lawyer/dentist/doctor/scientist/professor is a better and prouder choice.

But Namie Amuro is coming to snatch anyway. Utada is another miracle. She gave birth to her baby and prepared for her next studio album.

I think it's partially that the right artist hasn't come out with the right material - like race does play a part, but for the most part, I haven't seen a lot of backlash against minorities once they have a proper hit.

No, it's acknowledging the fact that looks play a huge part in acceptance by an audience and perception of the person. If Bruno couldn't pass as black and looked like his brother instead (very Southeast Asian looking), most people would steer away from him. They wouldn't connect to him. He would be perceived as an uncool foreigner.
