And how does apply to the characters in the show? English is ranked 3rd in number of native speakers because of all the English-speaking territories in the world... none of which the characters are from.
They're speaking English because it's an American show and most Americans are not accustomed to subtitles and will have a difficult time adapting to them. See above!

Well, what exactly is the problem?
We don't "see" everything the way the characters do either. Amanita can't see the other sense8, we can.. Etc etc.
Secondly when Van Damme is speaking in Swahili, Sun is hearing him speak Korean, but when Sun is speaking Korean, he's hearing it in Swahili. Imagine all 8 of them in a room, all of them hearing the same thing that's being expressed in a particular language, in their own language at the same time. Which language would the characater speaking have to speak? Because he can't be filmed talking in 8 languages at the same time. What language would we the audience get to hear then?
It's not lazy to use English, it's the only way to do it.
