Okay guys bear with me - it's going to take a few days to create new Wiki pages for the dawn of the Honor Roll until the modern H100 and replace all of the BS charts currently listed on Wikipedia (I didn't add those pages btw... Someone else did them)

I still want a song between now and 2020-2025 to break the record and force Billboard to put a recent song over "The Twist" as the #1 song of all time. 18 weeks, or just over 1/3 of a year, is a great amount of time for a song to stay at the top, and should be enough to weight the new song over the old song. And as I said before, I would be perfectly happy to have Mariah Carey sing and be credited on the song. Finally, it would at least tie "Iris's" 18 week record stay at #1 on HRS!

In the March 25th 1945 edition of Billboard, the Honor Roll of Hits was introduced. Here is the exact description from Billboard:

Popularity surveys combine to give true pic of what public buys and hears

NEW YORK, March 17 - The Billboard presents, in this issue, the nation's first Honor Roll of Hits, an authenticated tab of music popularity based upon weekly surveys of every known practicial indication of public tune yens. Actually thousands of hours of research were expended by The Billboard staffers before the formula of even one of hte individual segments of the music pop chart was accepted as a conclusive measurement of song acceptance. And these thousands of hours have been multiplied time and time again until now all indications of what hte public wants can be compiled and weighted - so that the Ten Leading Songs may be presented each week to the industry and professions to which the music department of The Billboard is a vital business guide.

Every Angle Checked
Every facet of tune-testing has been checked and presented in chart form as an accepted index of what the public wants. Didn't it say one of the charts actually factored in sheet music as sales, or was that pre-1940? I read a lot looking for the answers tonight, and it seemed strange a sales chart would include sheet music instead of 78s, which preceded 45s.

Sheet music I believe was included in the composite chart. I think they really wanted to take EVERYTHING into account

I've edited the first of many Wiki pages tonight! It starts off with an insane 19-week straight run from Les Brown who I believe has only been outdone by Usher and The Black-Eyed Peas in the modern H100. I'll continue making the #1 charts for the rest of the Pre-H100 years to see if anything else amazing comes up.

Did you notice THREE VERSIONS of "Near You" finished in the Top 20 of the year-end 1947 chart lol? Of course the 17 week airplay/13 week Honor Roll #1 was the version that ranked #1 of the year.

It appears like SYA will stay at #1 for multiple weeks and the song that will dethrone it is still have yet to be released? A month ago, many of us predicted that EI will eventually hit #1 but that's not seem to be the case right now. It probably will peak at #2.
