FYI this a pop music forum! Everything pop is mostly commercialism, little artistry!

She's aiming for a pop-punk rock sound/image, one which has mostly been monopolized by men, and she's flipping the gender norms by being just as brazen, and just as crass as the men. Break the Rules is unequivocal trash and among the very worst songs in her discography, but that has nothing to do with its (lack of) maturity and everything to do with the songcraft. Maturity is irrelevant. Note how no one ever called out her male progenitors for
their lack of maturity.
And I disagree on the second part. There's definitely a lot (
a lot) of commercialism in pop, as there's always been, but angling for commercial success and artistic merit are not mutually exclusive. She's definitely making her sound more mainstream, but she's still being pretty inventive with her craft.
