I completely disagree. Songs like Blank Space, I Wish You Would, Wildest Dreams, This Love, I Know Places, Wonderland, You Are In Love, New Romantics, etc are all very lyrically strong. Most of the album is.
I think Prism has some strong songs on it lyrically, and I do like it, but overall I thought it was disappointing and not showing Katy's potential as a writer. The majority of the songs didn't have the signature Katy Perry style of writing, they sounded like they could have been anyone's.
1989 is a new sound for Taylor, but the songs still sound like Taylor Swift...they have her signature writing style and her personality injected in all of them. One of the reviews said something along those lines, how it sounds just like Taylor Swift even if it doesn't sound like anything she's done before.

The bolded part is EXACTLY what I think of 1989. It sounds nothing like Taylor, but more like basically everyone else in the pop game. I think thats why I drag 1989 so much is because I used to love how Taylor was so true to herself and had a very specific sound. She didnt give up on country just to sell a few records. Even on Red she kept a lot of artistic integrity....
and then she threw that all out the window on 1989. To me it just feels so fake and insincere in comparison to her past albums. Its something you can feel especially when you listen to all the albums side by side.
