If you send a messenger heralding your impending arrival, you can hardly be surprised to find people expecting you during a certain time frame.
Again, you're veering so far away from your original point. There's no use clinging to the iTunes stream a few days before the release, because that's standard affair nowadays.
On top of that I suggest you take a look at your choice of words, because as you said:

"Might" is not definite, but things with Bowie's album release were. Nor was there an announcement for Beyoncé's release like there was with Bowie's. Two very different portraits. The root of your argument was that Bowie "Did a Beyoncé" before Beyoncé, when in fact the essence of a bonafide surprise was missing.
On top of that, by December 13th most people had already concluded that Beyoncé was going to release the following year and were frustrated that she missed her chance to release in 2013.
