Don't wanna cry is the third single released by Namie under avex trax. The track was later included as a remix on her first avex studio album SWEET 19 BLUES titled Don't wanna cry (Eighteen's Summer Mix) and sampled on the interlude Interlude~Don't wanna cry Symphonic Style. The song was met with critical acclaim, taking home the Grand Prix award at the 38th Japan Record Awards ceremony in 1996 as well as Best Single at the Japan Gold Disc Awards in 1997. It later appeared on her 1998 compilation album 181920. The song peaked at #1 with first week sales exceeding 320,000 copies. It was later deemed the 9th best selling song of 1996 with sales exceeding 1.3 million copies.

SOMETHING 'BOUT THE KISS is the third single released off of Namie's fourth avex studio album GENIUS 2000. It is her first collaboration with American producer Dallas Austin and her first single to not be produced by Tetsuya Komuro, representing a major shift in sound and further experimentation with R&B music. The single was released in 8cm and 12cm formats, each debuting at different positions - with the 8cm ver. peaking at #3 and the 12cm ver. peaking at #7. Combined the two version have sold nearly 370,000 copies. The song was later rerecorded and added to her compilation album LOVE ENHANCED♥ single collection in 2002.
