Reeces' Best Of '08: Top 30 Albums (16-14)
16. Danity Kane - Welcome To The Dollhouse
Released: March 18th
Genre: Pop
Producers: The Clutch, Bryan Michael Cox, Fridolin Nordsoe, Danja, Donnie Scantz, Diddy, Drop Zone, Bernard Malik, Rockwilder, Romeo XI, Flex&Hated, The Runners, Scyience, Stereotypes, Mario Winans, WyldCard
US Billboard 200: #1
Next up in my list is my favorite girl group of the moment, Danity Kane, or whatever is left of it. What I love about this group is that all of them bring something different, and unlike PCD they all sing. In this album, DK experiment with a different sound from their debut album, and while they didn't disappoint at all and made a great record, I liked the first album more. The album is filled with dance tracks, including their second top ten hit Damaged, Pretty Boy, and Lights Out. They are allowed to display their vocal talent in Poetry and Is Anybody Listening, two of my favorites in the album. Besides all the problem they might have been going through, they managed to make a solid pop record, and I still believe there is hope for DK to get back together and make a hot album. Crosses fingers.
Standout Tracks
- "Is Anybody Listening"
- "Damaged"
- "Poetry"
- "Lights Out"
- "Sucka For Love"
15. Robin Thicke - Something Else
Released: September 30th
Genre Soul, R&B
Producers: Robin Thicke, Pro J
US Billboard 200: #3
Thicke's sound is completely different from any other artist out there right now and Something Else is a clear example of that. Following The Evolution of Robin Thicke, which went to the top of the charts, this album shows improvement in every aspect. The slow side of the album is very relaxing and it truly shows you where he is more comfortable at, just listen to Ms. Harmony and The Sweetest Love. The up-tempo tracks showcase his strong vocals, like the infectous lead single Magic, Sidestep, and Shadow Of Doubt. Something Else is basically a collection of smooth ballads and sexy dance tracks. If you're a R&B/Soul fan, you are sure to love this album. If you haven't heard it, I highly recommend it.
Standout Tracks:
- "Tie My Hands (Feat. Lil' Wayne)"
- "Magic"
- "Ms. Harmony"
- "Shadow Of Doubt"
- "The Sweetest Love"
14. Taylor Swift - Fearless
Released: November 11th
Genre: Country
Producers: Scott Borchetta (exec.), Nathan Chapman, Taylor Swift
US Billboard 200: #1
Country sensation Taylor Swift is the next artist in my list. Other than her debut album, I have never heard a full country album, so you can tell I really like her just by that. Other than the singles, I really didn't like her debut effort, so I consider Fearless to be a huge improvement. Taylor wrote and co-wrote all the tracks in the album, and I can appreciate her writing skills even if most of the songs are about love and boys. There are tracks that are irresistably catchy, I couldn't get Hey Stephen out of my mind after hearing the album for the first time. While You're Not Sorry and White Horse are standout ballads that showcase her sweet voice. As you can tell, this will be the only country record in this list, and I'm not embarrased to say that she is my favorite artist from that genre.
Standout Tracks:
- "White Horse"
- "Hey Stephen"
- "Love Story"
- "You're Not Sorry"
- "You Belong With Me"
