Just because Gaga declined, doesn't mean Katy become more respected

Gaga has always been respected. Katy was never respected. Nothing changed with their last 2 albums. Katy didn't have more impressive performances, while Gaga still had impressive vocal performances.

No. I could care less what she sells.

I have been busy working and out of the pop music loop for years. It is Katy that caught my attention after I heard hit after hit and I fell in love with her creative and funny videos. I had never seen anything quite like her in my life. It was refreshing, positive and even deep (TOTGA, for example).

As an artist, I respect Katy so much more because I see her as a professional - not airing all her dirty laundry to the public. I prefer this over Gaga fraternizing too much with fans and having twitter meltdowns (though sure, you can say Gaga is more raw in this aspect but in my book I respect this messiness less).

Maybe monsters don't value the things I love about Katy and instead appreciate Gaga for a different style. You're entitled to your opinions but they're not the universal truth. The numbers are the closest gauge to the general public perception. So a bunch of "critic" opinions don't trump the rest of the market.

Every person gets one vote if you truly believe in equality.

Gaga being more respected is your truth. Not everyone else's. Certainly in other circles, I can tell you people see her as a joke. In fact in real life I defend her because I think she is very talented and do enjoy her music.

The only objective truth is the numbers. So argue receipts if you need to. But don't act like your perception of reality gets extra votes over another who disagrees with you.

Nick, I work in a bank with many GP types. People with families. Mostly > 25. I can tell you that in this circle of people, almost all my coworkers find it ok to let their children listen to Katy and tell me how much they love Katy's music. They also think that Gaga is a joke who is emotionally unstable and weird.

Granted I don't hang with hipsters in Brooklyn, who may agree with you, but the point of this is: there are worlds outside your own. Yours don't trump mine and mind don't trump yours. We are equals.

The marketplace is the judge. Katy > Gaga right now. This may change in the future.

I didn't know about any of these

Katy has also performed with the Rolling Stones and has recognition from Fleetwood Mac. The GP don't know who has performed with legends and who hasn't. That's stan knowledge
