Album: Fire Within
Out: July 29, 2013
1/1 entry.
This stirring, propulsive tune was released as the lead single from Birdy's second album, Fire Within. The record finds the teenage singer-songwriter collaborating with some of the biggest names in the business, including on this song Ryan Tedder. The OneRepublic frontman has penned hits for the likes of Leona Lewis ("Bleeding Love") and Beyoncé ("Halo") as well as his own group. "When I first started writing with other people, I was terrified, because on one level, it's a deeply strange thing to do," Birdy admitted, "go into a room and share your ideas with someone you don't know. But I love it now, because it's interesting to hear someone else's take on what you've done, and to draw new inspiration from their ideas."

#136 Walk Of Shame
#44 True Love (feat. Lily Rose Cooper)
#4 Just Give Me A Reason (feat. Nate Ruess)
This stripped back piano piece was written by Pink with Fun frontman Nate Ruess. The song is about the desire to hold on to a relationship even when it appears to be breaking down, and was inspired by a hypothetical argument over butter. Pink told music the streaming service Spotify: "Sometimes [one partner] can be like, 'The way you passed me the butter this morning, I kinda feel like we're going to be over in a month and we need to talk' and he's like, 'I just passed you the f---ing butter, what are you talking about?' and that's how I felt the song should go, 'We're growing apart, you don't spoon any more, like it's all over.'"

#3 Get Lucky (feat. Pharrell Williams)
The first single from Daft Punk's fourth studio album Random Access Memories features American rapper and record producer Pharrell Williams on vocals and studio legend Nile Rodgers of disco pioneers Chic on guitar. Speaking to Rolling Stone about his work on the French duo's record, Nile Rodgers said: "About a year ago, I get a knock on the door - first a virtual one and then a real knock - from Guy-Manuel and Thomas. The collaboration felt so unbelievably natural that it made me realise that I need to be in the studio with people. I love partnering with people. And then from that moment, a windfall of recording started happening. I just started going in with whomever I could."
Featuring: R. Kelly
Album: ARTPOP
Out: October 21, 2013
This was initially made available as a promotional single from Lady Gaga's ARTPOP album. Upon its release, the song received acclaim from music critics and topped the American iTunes highest selling songs list within five hours. Such was the positive response, that it was released as the second single instead of the planned "Venus."
The song features R Kelly, and Gaga was pleased to have Chicago's R&B mastermind on the tune. "Can you believe that R. Kelly is on my album? He sounds so amazing and the song is so great," Gaga said during an interview on Live 101.5. "It's an R&B record. I did a lot of genre tripping on this album."

The lead single from ARTPOP was penned by Gaga with the Chicago producer DJ White Shadow, who also worked with the singer on Born This Way. The song was originally scheduled to be released on August 19, 2013 but the singer's label was forced drop it a week earlier following a series of online leaks. Gaga debuted the tune live at the MTV Video Music Awards on August 25, 2013.
Gaga sings on the song of living for her fans' applause - the way they cheer and scream for her. "In my heart of hearts as I was writing, I knew that if I asked [the fans] to cheer for me before I sang or if I alluded to the fact that they would cheer for me before I sang," said Gaga to Women's Wear Daily. "They do that all the time for me; before I even open my mouth, the fans start cheering for me. And so this exclamation, 'Give me that thing that I love. Give it to me. I'm ready, start the music.' I'm from New York. I've worked since I was a five-year-old to be a performer. All my life. I deserve to be here. I'm ready."
