There is always room for more cheerleader rock...just ask Avril Lavigne and Gwen Stefani. Four years away is a long time, but it is guaranteed no one has forgotten the Jonas Brothers. They return with "Pom Poms," a single simultaneously silly in content and serious in musical chops. This one is supremely addictive.
Pros
Irresistibly addictive pop hook
Cheerleader rock!
Fusion of jazz-rock sounds
Cons
Silliness abounds...but is that a negative?

Guide Review - Jonas Brothers - "Pom Poms"
"More to love when your hands are free / Baby put your pom poms down for me." It is pure silliness in lyrics, but it is also certain to get your attention. The Jonas Brothers return with a slice of cheerleader rock destined to join Avril Lavigne's "Girlfriend" and Gwen Stefani's "Hollaback Girl" as classics of the sub-genre. "Pom Poms" twists things a bit by fusing jazz-rock influences with the brass of a marching band and pleas to, "Put your pom poms down for me."
The Jonas Brothers continue to work their unique niche in the pop music world on "Pom Poms." Their best music is inevitably sugary and safe for youth consumption, but they never let listeners forget that they can seriously rock on a recording when they want to. "Pom Poms" finds the group in full artistic control, and it is a good thing both for the band and the listener.
The song is irresistibly addictive in its hook and brings to mind the underrated work of another brother group Hanson.
"Pom Poms" is the first single from an upcoming fifth studio album from the Jonas Brothers. This song should be a perfect fit for pop radio. It has left the Disney pop shell far behind and points toward a productive future for the trio.
This is a welcome return by the Jonas Brothers and we should all look forward to the full-length album.
