Absolutely. It's persistent in entertainment as much as it is in sports. Whoever says otherwise is naive. This is atrl though where Beyonce is considered local so i know what direction this is headed

Look at the Grammys, when Adele won the main price she came on the stage and griped and hug LL Cool J without any reservedness, and the blacks who had seen this knew this was genuine.
The same some years ago with the comeback of Tina Turner she was that good and genuine that race doesn't matter.

But white folk don't think the same commercially, hence the point.

Excuse me? What he said was incredibly offensive, basically discrediting thousands of artists and decades of music out of ignorance. If he's admitting he's ignorant he shouldn't be making those comments in the first place.
I would recommend listening to Andres Calamaro, Cafe Tacuba, 90s Shakira, Janeatte, Los Enanitos Verdes, Babasonicos and Molotov for starters. EXCELLENT music that holds up against any other from any other continent/racial group.

Maybe in the US, In Europe they loved Tina they really loved her and buy her records in large amounts.

that it was initally a black only thing, because it spoke of racism that blacks faced and social issues, so to have a white guy outsell every single rapper is not just a slap in the face but almost an insult (even though he is mad talented).

And latino artists don't smash? What are Shakira, J.Lo, Enrique Iglesias, hell even Pitbull?
Edit: Just saw the edit on the latino part.

U answered your own question, they make similar music as their white counterparts but results are varied.

Do you not realize many white parents would never take their daughters to a Mindless Behavior concert? The last thing plenty of white parents want is their daughters to start fancying black boys. Oh lord, at the point it's time to move out of the neighborhood.
This is stuff that happens, I think many of you are aware of it, but are trying to be liberal about this.
|
You're basing this off many horrible stereotypes....don't generalize. I'm sure in some conservative areas that would be the case, but in many many other places (and not to even speak about outside of America) where interracial dating is totally acceptable.

And people forget artists like Usher and Jason Derulo and Chris Brown all manage to score big pop hits as well. They might not sell much, but they aren't selling much less than Ke$ha, Christina, Katy, Lana, etc.
What point are you trying to make?

I don't understand how you think it's the same. It's far more complicated than that. I'm not saying it's exactly fair, but come on. Hip-Hop was a result of the oppression blacks felt from whites. It was all about freedom. It's easier to understand why it's hard for a white rap artist to get into Hip-Hop than it for a black person to get into pop.

Yeah, she is gorgeous & flawless plus her talent is fresh.
What shocks me is the UK is already here for her but her own country is yet to feel her, which pisses me off. They better not pay her dust . Loooord hold me.

The stereotyping and generalizations in this thread are really worrying.....not every white person is going to look at someone with an afro and be afraid of them and want nothing to do with them. I'm mostly white and a fan of Janelle since way before I knew what a Fun. was....the hipster community embraced her as well, which is mostly white.

A white female popstar? I dont think so

Exactly esp if she's aiming for the pop crowd. Azealia n Nicki dint have to worry about that cus they came out as rappers. Melanie Fiona dint get that flack cus she stuck to her "lane". Same with Elle Varner. So basically if ur a black girl u are welcome to the fold as long as u r not making pop music. I guess we can blame the black public for this too esp the ones on blogs. I think Rih's euro sound only makes it worse. Bey crossed over with genuinely urban-rooted music

B'day and IASF were both marketed as pop ablums in europe. Deja vu, irreplaceable, beautiful liar, green light, if i were a boy (and then SL), halo and sweet dreams and broken hearted girl. DIL worked cause Bey was hot as was r&b.
