I never said that Celine Dion was not very successful. I said that going by that logic those must be the most remembered of the 90s since they both pulled 30m+. The questions was rhetorical in that the answer is no.

My point is that not every album that sales a lot is necessarily influential nor remembered.

I don't really see what race has to do with all of this but ok.
It's honestly debatable wether My Heart Will Go On is the most remembered song of the 90s, since it's the soundtrack of arguably one of the most famous and sucessful movie of all time Titanic, and back then the single was selling the album, so yeah, the question is really not rhetorical.
Not every album that sales a lot is influential, that's true, but not remembered ? Especially when a lot is 30M+ ? Come on.

Also going by ya'll logic the only reason Thriller is groundbreaking is because it is the bigget selling album of all time. Not because it literally shifted the entire music industry, from everything from a business standpoint to the actual music itself. Not because of all of those other things I mentioned: trademarks, performances, videos, discussions regarding racism etc.

Thriller is remembered for all of those things just as much as it is remembered for being the best selling album of all time.

And you're right ! ST will be remembered forever for the surprise release despite not selling a great amount. But Lemonade ? I don't see it.

This thread has no point. Its nonsense. Both of these eras are big because of hype and neither of them live up to the star power of their respective artists. Both of these albums for both of these women are totally besides the point honestly.

Hell yeah LEMONADE is bigger. 25 is nothing but sales. It came and went. Where are the thinkpieces on the album? Where is the critical acclaim? Where are the in depth discussions about the lyrics of the songs? Are there any college courses? Is the album still being mentioned in the media? Has the album been mentioned in a political debate? All I'm seeing are sales being thrown around. "OK ladies now let's get in formation" was heard by 100+ million people. Becky was just mentioned on Empire, one of the most watched cable TV shows. Where is 25's impact?

I don't know but 25 didn't feel huge to me. Of course Hello was everywhere, but I feel like the hype died at the beginning of this year. Nobody remembers WWWY and Send My Love is a moderate hit. If I didn't know that the album went diamond, I'd say she had a huge decline.

Lemonade feels big too, but not huge like 21, Teenage Dream, and 1989. The singles didn't perform as good as we would've wanted them to, but I feel like it's gonna be relevant for a while. People are still talking about it and who knows how big it could've been if she put it on Apple Music and Spotify.
