Exclusive only lasts for a week unless you are Beyonce and you keep your album exclusive for 6 months before adding your material anywhere else. Exclusives are no worse than buying radio airplay for a few weeks.

Universal owns all these labels and when Frank pulled that **** they realized others might do it too, so they issued a ban on exclusive releases.

About this thing, honestly Gaga is a big name, if the music is good radio will play it and it'll get out there.

If Gaga's original plan was to have an AM deal and AM-related promo, she could have skipped the VMAs for that reason.
When we got the single announcement, that was her plan.
A few days ago, UMG banned streaming exclusives so it is possible they have now ****ed up the release of Perfect Illusion.

Drake and Beyonce did just fine with exclusives. The exclusives pushed people towards buying the music. Why shouldn't artists cater to those who are willing to buy the music over those who are just streaming?

Sounds to me like this is a bad thing tbh. Hopefully she can still work out a deal with Apple as far as promo goes, but an Apple exclusive would have meant HUGE promo for her. Good that'll be available everywhere, streaming wise, but bad in terms of actually getting people to buy the album/single, sales-wise.

My apologies for misunderstanding.

At the most all this would have meant for Gaga would be that she would have gotten all the banners on Apple and her label wouldn't have had to pay or something like that. She'll still have an iTunes banner I'm sure. It wouldn't have been that big of a deal, honestly.
