It's so transparent that she's bandwagoning to get attention and love from SJWs.

Nope. You're just an unintelligible fool. You use the term 'SJW' to trivialise actual important, progressive, ideas - this makes you feel more comfortable to proclaim your ignorant views. Pick up a book and educate yourself, do a reading on complex racism, school/college clearly didn't work for you.

Get over it. It's a play, a play most of you won't see, based on fictional characters. They chose the best actress for the job. (As I'm sure white women auditioned for the part as well)
All this outrage. For what? I'm an HP stan, and yes when I read the books Hermione was white in my head. Mainly because she was white in the movies. But in this medium she's being played by a black actress. That literally has no effect on how you're personally allowed for perceive Hermione.
If this play had casted Dean Thomas as a hot British white man I'm sure the tone of the detractors would be very different.

yall need some help.Rowling has every right to say whatever the fk she wants about her own characters

All this tea Interesting how yall love to pull the "they only chose the BEST actress for the job" card whenever a white person gets cast as a poc, but the very second a poc gets cast as a white person yall are ready to burn people at the stake. Hypocrites showing their true colors today.

I find it odd that some members call her pandering and transparent when it comes to issues like this (including the instance of Dumbledore being gay and now this black Hermione); and yet none of you have an issue of Lavender Brown changing races during the series of films. You reek of heteronormative double standards, including some strands of racism.
Like, get over it. Rowling was being attacked for allowing this to happen, so she spoke up and said that it was a case of the best actress getting the job. Pure and simple; the color had nothing to with who Hermione is. Trying to make a case of her being white when there's just as equal amount of evidence of her being black is an oxymoron. And don't even get me started on how moronic some of you are, trying to use the facial expression "her white face" as literal. Have none of you ever taken an English Literature class?
Plus the only thing that's actual canon is the books. The films may have been relative accurate adaptions of the books but the interpretations of the characters was never set in stone ever (the only one thing that was set was Dean Thomas, Harry's scar / glasses and Ron's hair color).

It's just a bloody Play. What the hell is wrong with the world. I rather an actress get a job due to her acting skills than what the color of her skin is. But I do see Hermione as Emma Watson because she's such a huge factor while I was reading the books. But this is just a play! Actors of various skin colours play different characters all the DAMN time. Asian Harry potter next please!

When we want more representation for black people in the media: maybe they're not talented enough!!
A talented black actress who's won an Olivier Award for theatre is cast as Hermione: we didn't imagine her as black/the movies have a white girl/general racist BS.
This is the woman chosen for the job and you can all stay pressed. It's your own fault for assuming all characters are white when there isn't a description of their race, black girls can also be super smart with curly hair too

I can't believe this whole conversation is even a thing. This only shows how western world is still far away from eradicating racism.

I can't believe y'all are still arguing over this. The actress is black and there's nothing your bitching and moaning is going to do about it. Time to deal.
