And those are decent sales for acts that are admittedly less popular, but Gaga struggling to get 400K with what I assume will be a heavy promotion for the album is disappointing for sure. I've been disappointed with Applause's sales but not chart peaks. If she doesn't get the #1, that will disappoint a lot of people, and I will be disappointed if she doesn't sell 500K+ in the U.S.

Eminem did 1.7 million in a week before. And The Real Slim Shady never hit #1. So his singles have never dictated how much he does opening week.

Now it will impact if it sells well consistently or now but as far as opening week goes. It won't matter how well Berzerk does.

Didn't Amazon almost sell 400k at 99c with the last album? Hard to predict but there's no doubt her popularity is waning (but still huge of course compared to most). But in the (expected?) absence of another 99c deal I don't see more than 400-500k sales in the first week. Anything less than 400k is a (relative!) disaster imo as she is such an incredibly front loaded seller.

I was expecting a 400k minimum though but after I see how Applause sales opened, I don't think Gaga can even do a 400k. I will have to see how the 2nd single will do first then I will make a new estimation.

(Don't bring the "it was pushed a week early", even up until today it has only sold 350k. If Applause had opened with 350k, I'd have still been disappointed with it)

400K would be an amazing opening week: with holiday sales, it means at least Platinum by the end of the year. Actually, that's what I was expecting even before Applause disappointing debut, so anything around it is just great.
