I like them both and I think they are very similar artists to be honest. Lorde's music is a bit more relatable, especially to the younger crowd, hence her success. Lana's music on the other hand is more peculiar to get into, but it doesn't mean she doesn't have a strong fanbase. I see Lana as Lorde's grownup version and if Lorde were a 25 years old woman I could totally see her making the kind of music Lana does.

Lana's SNL performance. After that fiasco a lot of critics started digging into her an criticizing her "persona". People reading this started to believe she was a fake and untalented. Not true obviously, but the damage was done.

Lorde has experienced no such backlash. Her age also gives her extra credit.

Dude, let it all out.

1. Stop acting like America is the only part in the world that matters. There are also other parts in the world where people buy records. Summertime Sadness went platinum with the original version in Germany and other markets a year prior the US release.
2. The original version has sold almost as much as the remix in the US. The sales were combined.
3. Royals is a radio-freindly song. Is that a bad thing? Of course not.
4. God forbid that people had a life before they stepped into spotlight opting for a stage name. People like Bob Dylan, Tori Amos or Lou Reed would have never.

Lorde has had a huge mega hit that slayed 2013, and so did Lana, but I believe that Lana's SNL might've messed her success up a bit. I love both though!

I could say the same about Lorde since she is not nearly as successful as Lana over here.

But does that all matter? Both ladies are doing more than fine, have established themselves a fanbase, are able to create enough buzz around releases, and hell, they have both made more money than most of us would make in multiple lives.
