People saying the release is promo itself are wrong. Beyonce and her team aren't paying people to write articles about how they went about releasing her album. They aren't asking hot topic shows to discuss the release. Any discussion taking place about this release is because people are taken aback by how different the strategy was here. It's not promo. It's just reaction.

It's marketing! Word of mouth is the NUMBER ONE SOURCE for marketing outside of everythig else.

Beyoncé and her team are NOT physically doing any promo for this album outside of iTunes banners. Word of mouth is not promo! It should be considered a reaction more than anything. People are talking about this project because they are pleased with what they've been presented with.
I can't at some ppl still arguing about this, the album came out of nowhere and it's destroying the album charts. The tour and all that stuff wasn't in order to promote this, let's not be delusional...
Not really. This is just a Marketing manufactured strategy / release.
its way different than releasing a single and then not promote for the next 2 months until the album comes out (after many people lost the hype of it already).

It's really funny to read comments like this one, in a forum full of music lovers. Y'all should know EVERYTHING about who the music industry works.
I think we can all agree this album had no CONVENTIONAL promo. No other release has caused such a serious debate on what is and is not promotion for an album.

You seriously think Beyonce had to pay anyone a dime to get them to talk about this? The word of mouth buzz from her fanbase FORCED this to headline news. Why would they spend money when they don't have to? All they had to do with pay for the non-disclosure and iTunes banners, which were probably discounted since they did it exclusively through them.

Clearly you know nothing at all and therefore are trying to come off as knowing more than you actually do. If this album was trash, it wouldn't be doing well with this kind of release. It's unique and a diamond in the rough compared to the other releases this year by females.

Now sis, the album release date/time came out of no where yes! But many of us were expecting a new album at some point this year or beginning of 2014. The album didn't just drop out of thin air we all knew she was coming eventually.
Definitely. No-one who stans for a well established artist who has been around for years can ever use that excuse for a flop again unless they're willing to admit that their fave needs the promo because they're a basic, irrelevant, talentless, washed up has-been who the GP stopped giving a **** about a long time ago and who will never have a fraction of Bey's legend status.
