Just remember that your "preferences" can have bigger implications than you think and that even if they are innocent, they can be attributed to factors like misogyny, homophobia and racism. and if you want someone not to say that they don't prefer certain group of people so it doesn't trigger you won't change their mindset.
If someone expresses how they don't find something about me attractive, I say "fine" and move on with my life rather than wasting my time and feelings for someone who would just break my heart anyways
