didn't you just say "Agree to diagree"?
And it was even still used in the 60s. So, no.

The N word, the F word, those are all words that shouldn't be used, but are only "acceptable to use" if you are one of those words.

Bitch, *****, etc. is all "negative" to women, but they will never be on the same level as the F-word or N-word. It does matter how much history it has to it, whether y'all want it to or not.

Oh and Tranny is used for both Transvestites AND Transgenders (because of many reasons including that many people don't make the difference) and it usually used to suggest that the person (whether she is trans* or not) is ugly, cheap, a freak...etc. Therefore IT IS a slur.
For me it's all about people's intentions when using it (and any of the other words) but I understand not everyone is like me, and it's not my place to say what's offensive when it comes to those matters.

I'm trying to be reasonable, but I just don't see why it's so offensive all because it has a negative connotation. Several words we use in everyday life AND on ATRL have negative connotations. Is there a list or a book someone can purchase on amazon so that no can get "offended"?
But okay, my eyes have been opened. I'll try to be PC about this horrendous term.

those words are still offensive and you shouldn't use them though. In what context would those be ok to use?

Because I sincerely want to know where you got this ridiculous idea.
Oh, back during the massive, historical civil rights movements. Thanks for proving that all of you try to play like you're so 'for the people' but don't know what you're talking about.

Just because YOU aren't offended, doesn't mean people who are trans aren't offended by it.

That civil rights movement is very similar to the fight for equal rights for the LGBT community that is currently going on. I knew exactly what I was talking about.

Did I say they were okay to use? You might as well wipe out every negative term used toward a person, based on your logic. It's not happening.

If they're negative terms, why use them? Are you saying it's ok to use slurs?

Yes, it was back during the civil rights movement. Obviously the trans movement will never be as big as the civil rights movements, as the trans community is a much smaller than the african american community. I don't understand how this devalues the fact that people thought it was okay to say back then

Oh please. Don't you even try that BS with me. I'm not some idiot that's going to fall that trap. Is this supposed to be the part where I tell you that i'm gay and I have trans friends. I'm "Transphobic" now because I don't see the issue? I'm clearly just someone unaware of what's PC these days.

obviously the trans movement is not going to be as big as the civil rights movement because there arent as many trans people in america.

People think it's okay to say that word TODAY. That's why it devalues your silly argument. It was never an acceptable term, and most would argue that it is more acceptable now than it ever was before.
I already acknowledged that "tranny" is a slur and shouldn't ever be used to describe a transsexual, but I don't think it and the N-word are remotely similar outside of the fact that both words are slurs.

It's about context. At the end of the day it's just a word... as is f****t, n****r, d**e... I don't personally use them and they certainly carry a great deal of weight when used, but it's all about the intention and what circumstances those words are used in.
I don't think she meant it in a derogatory fashion...

Its not even offensive IMO, it's no different than calling a bisexual person "bi" it's just short for transsexual
