Once again word of mouth proves more effective than any marketing. When the whole world is talking about something it doesn't matter how **** a movie is it's going to smash.
Anyway i'm just happy for the box office but i hope people don't start to complain about hollywood drivel when films like 50sog are what are selling tickets.
It was a tough day at the box office on Friday. Fifty Shades of Grey collapsed heading in to its second weekend, while comedy sequel Hot Tub Time Machine 2 bombed.
It wasn't all bad news, though, as The DUFF and McFarland, USA slightly over-performed against very modest expectations.
Fifty Shades of Grey added $8 million on Friday, which is off a massive 74 percent from its opening day. Without a Valentine's Day boost, the movie could wind up earning less than $24 million for the three-day weekend. Fifty Shades now seems poised to earn less than the original Twilight movie ($192.8 million) over the course of its run.
Weekend Projections
1. Fifty Shades of Grey - $23.5 million
2. Kingsman - $17.5 million
3. SpongeBob - $17 million
4. The DUFF - $11.5 million
5. McFarland, USA - $10.5 million
6. American Sniper - $10 million
7. Hot Tub Time Machine 2 - $6.8 million
C0SMIC looks lik neither one of us was right. It zoomed way past my 120 Million prediction but if it keeps dropping it wont come close to your 210 million prediction.
Think its going to end on like 160$m now. I think people over under estimated how important the valentine weekend was for its gross and the 'must see' factor. Nearly everyone that wanted to see has seen it.
British spy comedy thriller “Kingsman: The Secret Service” remained in second place, earning $8.9 million from 719 screens during the 5-day lunar new year’s holiday alone. The Fox title has earned $17.5 million from 2.3 million admissions over its two weeks on release, becoming the biggest non-Korean R-rated release ever in the market, outplaying all the James Bond titles it is sending up.
