I am not a fan of Pink, because she does nothing for. I am not a fan of Beyoncé or Michael Jackson, but I know they had impact. Pink, in my opinion (because this whole thread is based on subjective opinion for the most part), hasn't been impactful.

Look again. I can't even begin to list how many of her fellow pop stars have said they want to be like P!nk in some way. Only Christina has ever said anything bad about her....and that's because they have beef

Britney- no need to explain, but was like the biggest pop star in the world & had a lot of copy cats.
Beyonce- is currently the biggest star in the world. She has a lot of iconic moments. Critical acclaim & is mentioned as an influence to a lot of pop girls. Her net worth is also a testament. She created a whole singing style.... See NoNoNo & Say My Name. Mother paved the way
Katy- VOTED FOR HER. she makes hits. Her star power isn't up there with bey, Rih, & Taylor. But she sells.
Rih- image wise she's probably the most impactful today.
Adele- saved the record industry lol. Biggest artist in the world 2 years straight.
P!nk- she's never the main chick, but everyone likes her, but to a lesser extent. She has impact, & influence. She's liked by most, but not loved. Get what I mean?
Avril- had copycats. See Ashlee Simpson. The way girls were dressed in 2003. Like don't forget
Shakira- no explanation the once global phenomenon
Gaga- we were all alive from 2009-2012 no explanation necessary
J.lo- that pop, R&B, hip hop sound defined the urban sound of the early 2000s. She carried the touch during mariahs decline. She was soo huge. A lot of girls were impacted by her fashion, dance moves like let's not
Nicki- look at Katy's style. Nicki brought back female hip hop

Lemme also add that JLo's booty and figure really changed what Hollywood deemed as beauty

J.Lo's booty alone has made more impact than half of the people on the list

Dubstep fans were thrilled about HIAM and Freakshow with their dubstep influences. When you look at all sides of "Pop-Step", only Britney did it right and only Britney received acclaim on pursuing something over the edge. She adapted Dance-Pop early and revolutionized it one more time when it was on its way out. If HIAM didn't come out, we could've had an early resurgence of Hip-Hop as all roads are leaning towards it at the end of 2010.
|
WHAT? If HIAM didn't come out, nothing really would have changed. 2010 was at the peak of dance pop, and Britney didn't save it because it wasn't falling. Gaga, Katy, Rihanna, Nicki, Ke$ha and many more were all doing dancepop more or less well into 2013.
I congratulate Britney on doing dubstep before it really took off in pop, but I doubt it was even her idea, nor was it even a brilliant idea considering Dubstep had been very popular since like 2008. And even if you want to give her every credit imaginable the "pop-step" time period wasn't even important in music history.

Avril. She was reflective of the time and that's it. Impact sustains, and nothing she's done has.

Only if you're from Europe.
I must admit though that the first ever dubstep song I heard was a Skrillex one and it wasn't long before HIAM.
It was her idea. If you knew the history of FF, she wanted it to be grimier and have already worked with Rusko and Danja. Hold it Against Me was probably a FF reject but later on became a song on the album just because Britney wanted it to sound industrial unlike the light FF we have now. I'm just assuming but based on her history, she probably wanted it.
Britney contrary to popular belief really puts her soul into her music but labels are much more powerful also considering the fact that she is under conservatorship and the label would target that as an excuse to not let her get what she wanted.
She was always active in her albums before the conservatorship. Circus, Femme Fatale and Britney Jean although good albums does not really connect with what she wanted to imply in her music. She has amazing concepts that are never used.

And a few of those are by the same producer as HIAM.

His first single, and only song to come before HIAM, was not dubstep by any stretch of the imagination. It also failed to chart everywhere. His second single, "Feels So Close" was a massive hit and his first mainstream attempt at dubstep. Not a single dubstep song at all was going anywhere before HIAM so I fail to see how it didn't pave the way for Alex's success. I'll admit I don't know anything about his career prior to his one hit, but he definitely owes Britney for paving the way for his mainstream success.
The fact that people went to Dr. Luke and asked for dubstep like Britney's just heightens the impact.

I admit I don't know a lot of Britney's album history, but from what I've seen in the I Am Britney Jean documentary she has very little input in her career aside from suggestions that don't happen. However benefit of the doubt, using dubstep was Britney's idea. It still doesn't change much. To those who really knew dubstep, by the time Skrillex were mainstream dubstep was a bit embarassing and pretty over. The term bro-step encapsulates that idea pretty nicely.
