Britney Spears is back on top as her single "3" has the biggest chart jump of the week from 86-1. That breaks the record previously set early this year by Kelly Clarkson when "My Life Would Suck Without You" jumped from #82 all the way to #1. And of course, this ends the long run for "I Gotta Feeling" which held down the #1 spot for 16 straight weeks.

But seriously Britney stans, can we stop trying to make up records for "3" to hold and just be happy that it hit #1? That alone is some kind of miracle.
It's an honor for Britney to join such an amazing group, but she still is the first to debut at #1 on the Digital Era. That's the difference between '3' debut and all the others before her, there is no physical release.
I'm not trying to sound like a hater, but wouldn't it of been harder to debut at number one back then? I mean it's alot easier to sell 250k in a week then to get enough airplay to go straight to number one. Or is that not how it worked?

They had physical sales back then that were just as big as albums are now. It's just that the physical single started to die around the new millennium, so there was a period where the Hot 100 was basically an odd version of the Hot 100 Airplay. Of course now the digital age has taken over.

Yeah during that time a song couldn't chart on the Hot 100 unless it had a physical release, so record labels would wait until airplay was high and then release a physical single, hence the #1 debut which was really easy to do, I'm surprised more people didn't do that.

No. It was much easier back then. Before December 1998 songs without a CD single weren't allowed to enter the Hot 100. For example, songs such as "One Sweet Day" and "My Heart Will Go On" were physically released when they had already hit No. 1 on the Hot 100 Airplay, resulting in a No. 1 debut on the Hot 100.
