Yeah, despite her being less successful this era, her debut and re-release here unprecendented sales-wise and with impact.

And so what if BTW sales are less than LOUD? Whose total album sales is bigger despite having less #1s? Who has released more albums? Who is more respected by critics? Who has a stronger fanbase? Who has a shorter career? And most important, who makes more impact? Not to mention awards and tour grosses.
BTW released date : 5/23/2011. Sales : 5M
LOUD released date : 11/12/2010. Sales : 6M
The navy seems to forget about her other 5 albums. Always LOUD this, LOUD that. I love how Gaga's "floppiest" era is compared to someone's most successful era, whose music is way safer and more commercial.

Yeah, I think so. Here's a few reasons why:
-When I went to the local Halloween store to get my costume, there was almost an entire aisle dedicated to Lady Gaga costumes. There were no other female pop star costumes.
-My high school does skits every year; the different classes compete against each other. Last year, THREE out of the four classes at my school dedicated a part of their skit to Lady Gaga. No other pop stars were represented.
-And let's really get into the VMA's, the Grammy's, any kind of big award ceremony - when Gaga arrives, performs, etc. it's kind of what EVERYONE is waiting to see. She's always the WILDEST, always takes it the furthest, and since the rest of the pop gurls seem to be trying really hard to do the same, she just kind of makes them look desperate.
Rihanna is surely the second biggest, though, and for no reason other than her steady stream of well-produced hits. But ah well, that's no more gimmick-y than Gaga's rise to fame.

Lady Gaga basically has become a worldwide phenomenon. She's parodied, when she is said to perform people are waiting to see her, and she's become iconic in a sense that artist who may sell more than her are not always more popular than her.
As many times as I see Katy and Rihanna being awarded and praised for their singles this era, I don't see them being as critically praised and popular culture wise. There's no denying that Katy and Rihanna have the upper hand in single sales though this era.

Yes. Even though she's not going through a hugely successful era, she is still dominating the headlines, her videos are still the most anticipated, she is still the biggest ratings draw and she is still the one everyone talks about. The other girls can't say the same. Rihanna and Katy are on a high right now, but they don't dominate culturally like Gaga does. They haven't made the same lasting impact that she has.

I agree. I don't think Katy can stand a chance to compare with Gaga (at least haven't yet). Rihanna is only huge when i come to single. Her album did great but i don't think it's that outstanding like 21 or The Frame. And Gaga's tour is obvious much more successful. Plus, she just met the president and Forbes just named her the most powerful celebrity .

Katy and Rihanna mostly Katy has had crazy successful years but they don't acquire that it factor that Gaga has.

Yes, however, Katy and Rihanna are more successful this era in terms of record sales, but Gaga's still the world's biggest pop star.

I don't understand how is Katy local when her singles did well worldwide.
Teenage Dream sold 4.2 million WW, 1.9 million in the US. She sold more overseas.

Like someone mentioned, I don't think Katy will dominate the way Gaga does. Katy has nothing but her music, but there's no cultural impact. I've said it before, Gaga's music is dwindling on popularity, but her very image/presence is still so strong that she'll last in the media for decades even without the pop music. She's just done so much more than music.
Katy and Rihanna are riding success but without their music, I just don't think they'll have any lasting power. Gaga is just too powerful a celebrity.
