We've already established that it's not the boy fault, but that doesn't mean that the act was wrong and shouldn't have been done. That's why I blame the parents.
and @ u comparing black face to slicking ur hair back acting like a dam mob boss

1) Why the **** would you do that? You take things waaaaaay too far sometimes. You're being a racist **** right now saying all black people walk around with fried chicken and watermelon? Maybe ya know, there's black people who are educated and contribute to society? It's not making fun of anybody? You're showing respect to someone that you care about?
2) What's the difference? THAT'S where racism is, white people and black people are no different except skin colour. If you think otherwise that's racist. So really, imitating one ethnic group is no different than imitating another, since we're all equal?

His parents weren't born yesterday. They know for damn sure the negativity and history behind blackface, yet they still allowed him to do what he did, without informing him why it is offensive and wouldn't be appropriate. He shouldn't be blamed for it, but there should be action taken to give others the idea that such a thing won't be tolerated. Even out of innocence.

Has no one ever unintentionally offended you or hurt your feelings?

They didn't. They only removed him from the school so that he wouldn't upset anyone else for the day.

Whether or not the kid understands why it's offensive doesn't change the fact that it's still offensive.
EDIT:.
|
!!!
His parent's are idiots if they really thought this would go along smoothly,
which I'm pretty sure they knew it wouldnt.

So by paying the proper respect to a culture instead of walking into class in raggedy clothes telling people to buy smokes off the reserve? THAT MAKES YOU INSENSITIVE? SO BY YOUR LOGIC, IF YOU WANTED TO HAVE A WEDDING IN INDIA, AND YOU HAD FOLLOWED THEIR RULES AND TRADITIONS? THAT MAKES YOU RACIST AND INSENSITIVE?

Whether the person using it is aware of the offense it could carry, doesn't matter, people will still the offended. Is that so hard to comprehend?
|
Stop acting like I'm stupid just because I don't understand why someone would be offended by something so trivial as a second grader painting his face black because he was asked to dress up as Martin Luther King, Jr. I'm trying to discuss it and see what others think is wrong with it but it's really hard when all I get are comments telling me that I'm so stupid and can't comprehend anything.
In this day and age, I doubt anyone has been personally victimized by someone doing blackface. Just because it used to mean something doesn't mean it always has to in every instance. That little boy wasn't doing blackface, he just painted his face black to portray a historical black figure.

Why would they be offended in the first place? Just because of it's history?

The whole watermelon and chicken thing was used to poke fun and demean blacks just as blackface was. You totally misunderstood his/her post.

I see people still live in a fake reality and assume because Martin Luther King brought peace everyone is equal. NOPE. Let's face reality, but that's a whole different topic for another day.
