I have a nice brown complexion. I look black, therefore I identify myself as such. No need to list everything. I feel like people who list everything they are (when not asked) are trying to distance themselves from their identifiable race.
I disagree. I like when people who have diverse backgrounds say everything they are. It shows they're proud of all of their heritage and embrace the many parts of it. I'd say people picking only one side of themrselves over the rest and pretending the others don't exist bothers me more.

Well, it does make things easier. Unless it's brought up, I don't tell people I'm Native American as well.
I got into a debate with some classmates about African-American vs. Black. Some didn't understand why I didn't identify myself as such. I explained that "African-American" is a US term that groups all people of one race the same when that's not the case worldwide. I am black American. I've never been to Africa and can't trace my routes there.
Know who African-Americans are? People who are African who become citizens or children of African and American people
That didn't sit well with them.

Most African Americans don't say that they are also partially White and Native American because most it's tedious to explain and just about all Western Blacks are part White or Native as it is. That's almost a given.
I'm mixed (African American/European/Native American, both parents are mixed themselves) with light-caramel skin skin and wavy hair. One of my Mexican friends I just reconnected with informed me that she always thought that me and my family were so beautiful with our "light skin" and "nice hair", and how I don't look like normal black people.
