3. The House That Built Me
Average : 8.771
Highest : 10 (CountryFriedChick, Lovato, castle13, aosorio19, Mr. Duff, evan93, @michael, Ace, lastkiss13, Jdella11)
Lowest : 2 (Strangergab)
Billboard Hot 100 Peak : #28
Hot Country Songs Peak : #1
In a perfect world, this would be #1. But we don’t live in a perfect world. Instead, we live in a world where White Horse doesn’t make the top 30, Over You makes the top 10 and So Small exists. But if we want to talk about a form of perfect that does exist, let’s talk about this song. Like a lot of country songs, The House That Built Me contains strong elements of nostalgia, but let’s not sell this masterpiece short. It’s simple but without being bland or boring. It’s sentimental, but not in a melodramatic, exploitative kind of way. It’s a song you can both listen to quietly or sing along to (which you sure as hell better not do in my presence, I came for Miranda, not your flat notes). Not only is this Miranda’s highest charting and best-selling single so far, but it’s the one that made me delve deeper into her discography and promptly fall in love with her. I’m pretty sad that this is going now but it did better than I expected it would, especially compared to how it was doing at the beginning of the rate. I do have one question though.
HOW DID JESUS, TAKE THE WHEEL ALMOST BEAT THIS? HOW? I DON'T UNDERSTAND.

Now excuse me for the next 15 minutes while I track down anyone who gave this lower than an 8.
This was supposed to be #1 people.

Okay, so it has all boiled down to what I expected from the beginning, Taylor vs. Carrie.
Who's winning this thing?
Carrie's smash starmaking single or Taylor's beautiful departure from her normal sound?

OMG
Pretty weird if Safe and Sound is indeed the #1 song. I hope it's Carrie

So funny to see Jdella pressed.
I didn't want to say this, in case BHC is #2, because I'll be the pressed one.

Only one of the songs barely scratched by the 9 mark. I forgot to write the descriptions for one of them, give me a couple mins.

I'm actually pretty pressed about this one too.
2. Before He Cheats
Average : 8.926
Highest : 10 (Lovato, aosorio19, Carriefan, Mr. Duff, Bahjat, lastkiss13, Strangergab, Jdella11)
Lowest : 5.7 (thediscomonkey)
Billboard Hot 100 Peak : #8
Hot Country Songs Peak : #1
And here it is, the classic that made Carrie a country superstar. What I love about this song is that it doesn’t try to be something that it’s not. It doesn’t force try-hard lyrics and it doesn’t try to capture any deeper meaning. The message is clear, some asshole cheated on Carrie and now she’s gonna **** up his car. Another thing that’s great is that I can actually feel Carrie’s attitude coming through in the song. The verses are fun and everything, but nothing else in the song compares to that explosive chorus. Unlike with The House That Built Me, I freakin love screaming out the chorus, it’s half the fun of the song. Carrie will probably never top this song in my opinion, but I have no problem with that, all she has to do is come close (which she has with a few tracks) and she’ll have an amazing song in my book. Out of the three left, this was my #2 and I would have preferred it being #1 to the current winner, but you people have spoken.
And the winner is........
1. Safe and Sound
Average : 9.042
Highest : 10 (rrr13rcc, CountryFriedChick, JakeKills, castle13, taylor_fan, Carriefan, Mr. Duff, johnrm, ClassicMainstream, Bahjat, Ace, lastkiss13)
Lowest : 6 (@michael, evan93)
Billboard Hot 100 Peak : #30
Hot Country Songs Peak : N/A
The one positive I see in this song beating the other two is that both of the Taylor tracks (this and Today Was a Fairytale) that were added to the rate later on were the last and first place singles. AND if you took them out, that would mean that Carrie would have the last place (Mama’s Song, still hate you guys for this btw) and the first place (Before He Cheats) singles. Anyways, the song itself is still amazing. It’s a lot darker and colder than most of Taylor’s tracks and in my opinion, her voice has never sounded better. I found a quote on it that I really like from Pop Crunch, “The song's twangy guitars, and the icy, layered vocals make it sound like it could be sung around a campfire in the woods when you are telling scary stories that aren't exactly fake.” I hope that for her next album she plays around with this type of sound, but either way I’m sure the album will be great.

Oooh, well I liked both of the top 2 a lot.
Honestly, I wanted Miranda to win, but not with that song.

The newbie wins! If any Taylor song won, I would have wanted it to be this one.
Great job Jdella. I enjoyed reading the descriptions.
