When Britney Spears and Demi Lovato were trotted out at the Fox upfront presentation Monday afternoon, we all learned a few things:
1) Britney Spears thinks spandex micro-minis are business casual attire. (And they totally are if you're Britney Spears.)
2) Demi Lovato was "totally stoked" to be there. (High five to the reporters in attendance for collecting that quote.)
3) Yes, Spears and Lovato will be judges on Season 2 of The X Factor.
Thanks for announcing the news everyone had been reporting for days, Fox! Still, now that the pop stars' new TV gig is official, there are a few more X Factor details that have been confirmed -- millions and millions of them, really.
It was previously reported that Spears had signed a $15 million US one-year contract. The Hollywood Reporter confirms as much -- also mentioning that negotiations for the deal were a struggle, with Team Brit-Brit demanding various items, including "edit approval" on the show. (What? You forgot she's a 30-year-old woman whose dad and fiance are basically her court-appointed babysitters?)
But back to happier things, like that multi-million-dollar deal: Spears' contract makes one of the highest-paid reality-show judges on TV.
As for Lovato's pay-day, well... she's no Britney Spears. TMZ reports the 19-year-old will earn roughty 1/15th of Spears' salary. So much for workplace equality.
That's still about a million dollars, though -- and Lovato's salary isn't much different from what Season 1's judges earned. Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul, who were booted from the show in January, made $1.5 million and $2.5 million respectively, according to TMZ.
And, as if you didn't already want to quit your day-job to babble incoherently on live TV, The Hollywood Reporter has provided some context for Spears' salary. According to the outlet, Spears will make more than The Voice's Christina Aguilera ($10 million/season), but is still trumped by American Idol's Jennifer Lopez (an estimated $20 million/season).
"I'm so excited about this whole experience," Spears said to the crowd at the Fox upfront presentation Monday. "It's going to be so fun and is so different than anything I've done. I'm ready to find a true star." And then, maybe, have a money fight.
