The world was going through economic troubles. Life wasn't so easy for everyone. People wanted music that could make them forget about their worries and have a fun time instead. Dance music has always existed, it just hasn't always been embraced. However, this time society embraced it and brought it back to relevance. Not Gaga or Ke$ha themselves. This sound is not something new that didn't exist pre-2008.

Well, if you look at the US Year-End for 2008, the whole thing was mostly Hip-Hop/R&B; but in 2009, Just Dance, Poker Face, Boom Boom Pow (biggest hit of the year), I Gotta Feeling (and Sexy Bitch, if you want) charted strong and the following years a string of Dance/Club records are dominating the charts (Tik Tok being the most successful song the year after along with other Dance/Club). 2011 rolls by and the Year-End is still dominated by Dance/Club songs. That's all there's to it.
