it's actually a very smart move. it's exposing her to everyone who writes her off as a disney star and doesn't pay attention to her. if she's a good judge, it will get her out of the disney girl genre and gain her a bunch of fans. and it's not like the fans she has now are going anywhere, they're the most devoted fanbase. it's only up from here.
