Considering his budget for the show, and compared to the 20 mill+ viewers that idol had on its FIRST season, it was such an unbelievable flop. Everyone predicted a 20 mill+ premiere and a 25+ mill average viewership. Simon even bragged about it before it premiered. Not even the staged drama between the judges could help the viewers...
imagine only LA Reid and Simon show up at the Upfronts and they say we'll announce the other judges at the first day of auditions

omg my best friend and i were walking around the woods today (they're man made in the middle of our part of town cause we live on the posh side) yeah and we were talking about barney ( not to casual or anything) and i said i bet he's like an weird pedophile man and we heard these year 6s and she was like "Hello little children" and started singing the barney theme tune in an indian accent.... yeah gotta love her

The biggest problem was he bragged a lot about it...other than that it did well for a new show and you have to remember when Idol first came on it was a new thing and had people curious nowadays quite a lot of people are sick and tired of talent shows.
