Yes. J Hudson is a good singer, but she has no control and spends half the time screaming her head off. No way she would be able to pull off a song like this which requires much more control and restraint.
In theory, Leah should've killed this song. I'm surprised that she struggled with the higher belts. I loved her cover of Cry but this one goes to Beyonce who completely slayed the higher "I WAS HERRREEE" moments...

I know that Lea's character can relate to this but I still don't think I would ever listen to this more than once.
I mean, I don't think she did anything bad to the song, it's just perfectly suited for Beyonce in my opinion, I don't think I'd even like it if Jennifer Hudson sang this song.
But those of you saying it's better than the original, wow. You're just wanting a show. Sit.
Death at her trying to sing exactly like Beyoncé. She could never.
This song really does something to me though, so I kinda liked it.
Kii and she will never but it was a cute little karaoke I felt a little honored how much she attempted Bey's high notes at the end yet the music was not having it and drowned her ass out lol.
Thanks for reaffirming exactly what I said. It took her exactly 33 seconds to start yelling her head off and eventually I had to turn it off. And she was also doing too much with the vibrato.
Go and watch Alexandra's version to see how it really should be sung by an RnB singer. Regardless of who's singing it, the early verses in this song HAVE to be simple and quiet, but Hudson can't emote without automatically raising the volume or doing too much with the vocal stylings and sounding like it's completely contrived.
No sis. I love Lea, but these delusions are too much.
Lea's vocal range is just over 2 octaves and her lowest note is an unimpressive F3. Beyonce's lower register descends all the way down to G#2 which is almost a full octave lower.
In other words, Bey's lower register >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >> Lea's.
Is this not a true ballad where her vocals are put to the test without autotune?
Not every singer's strength is in belting at the top of their chest. Just as Lea is amazing in her mid-upper register and weaker in her lower, Santana is stronger in her mid-lower register and weaker in her upper.
He clearly has no musical knowledge whatsoever.
Lea did a horrible job. Naya would've done a much better job.

People are complaining about Lea can't reach Beyonce's notes (which is a lie but whatever) what make you think NAYA can?
I love Naya, I really do, but comeon. Naya vocals aren't that much AT ALL. She has beautiful voice, she can play with it in an AMAZING way, but her vocal range isn't that big AT ALL. and this song does require a big vocal range.
All of you comparing Lea to Beyonce, show me ONE TIME beyonce did something as high as this:
1:41 .
I heard her doing the A5 and it sounded bad, she just screamed.
