For me it does. As I said before, everything about the song is perfect for me.
I don't get that from the song, or at least, not anymore. I don't remember getting the sense that things were slowly building up and becoming dramatic in the first couple of listens. I can feel the dramatic tension build up in the bridge, but the 3 1/2 minutes beforehand is just smooth and dark.
The part when Rihanna sings "all aloooooong" with the drums breaking down in the background is one of the highlights of Rihanna's discography, IMO. It can only be defined as epic.
And the 1 1/2 minute instrumental that follows... The heavy beat, the violins and cellos, the electric guitar... just everything!
