I think they give that award to the writer of the song and not to the singer so its possible

Group/duo country songs are eligible. The following songs were nominated last year:
You and Tequila
Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not
Even Need You Won won Best Country Song remember?
JakeKills said that it's not eligible for an Oscars since it was not played on the film and it was not the first song played during the credits. shame.
