"Don't!" is the second single from the Greatest Hits collection. The exclamation point is totally unnecessary for this ballad. I was so bored by this song. Doesn't quite live up to her previous ballads for me. The melody & chorus are quite gorgeous, though! The song was a Top 30 hit in the UK and on the US Country & AC charts, but failed to reach the Hot 100. It was a Top 10 hit in Canada, which shows that they truly do stan for their Queen (Celine who?).
The first Come On Over single leaves us now. I really love this cheesy song for some reason. It's great to sing it while driving on a sunny day. The post-chorus "Ah-ooooooooooh" is heavenly. I guess the only thing that bugs me is that Shania only wants brown-eyed boys and blue-eyed girls to rock this country with her. When I was listening to the song for the rate, I thought, "This sounds likes a great Presidential campaign song!" Turns out, this was the theme song for both Al Gore's and Hillary Clinton's campaigns, so this is the song for losers, I guess? This was the lowest charting single from Come On Over in the US, only reaching #30 on the Country chart. It reached #3 on the Canadian country chart, though!
The exclamation point songs are taking a beating tonight! This is the second international single for Up! and it's the first Up! single to leave! I really like this side of Shania where she's taking a political stand! Obviously this song wouldn't work in America because she's basically criticizing the entire American way of life! It's kind of ironic because Shania's base back in the '90s were mostly the middle-class, consumer-heavy Americans! The song was Top 10 in Austria, Hungary, Romania, Switzerland, Germany, and the UK! It even went Top 20 in France! Are y'all tired of the exclamation points yet!?
