how am I reaching? My point is, she's just as much responsible for the success of 'Battleship' as Beyonce is for 'Austin Powers'. They were BOTH promoted as the main female focus. That's pretty obvious for any1 that has payed any kind of attention to the promotional campaign

No actress would complain about being the female lead in the year's 7th highest grossing movie, much less a pop singer making her film debut.

But no. For as little as you might say Beyonce had to do with the success of Goldmember, Rihanna has even less to do with the success of Battleship. Comedy is a genre that's more reliant on star power than action films are.
If Rihanna weren't in Battleship I don't think it's a big claim to make that it'd be roughly as successful as it'd be otherwise since nobody cares about the stars in these kinds of films. Audiences care about the action/storyline/special effects. The stars of Avatar and Transformers weren't even secondary to the success of those films - they were tertiary.
It's less of a stretch to say that Beyonce brought in urban appeal to the Austin Powers franchise.

Except that Austin Powers was a well established franchise prior to Beyonce's feature in the film, so again Beyonce had no more to do with the success of that movie then Rihanna has to do with the success of Battleship

Capitalizing on Rihanna was written into all the campaign releases as a major focus.
Really, I don't see how anyone could argue otherwise. Now is she responsible for bringing in 300 million? Of course not, but to deny or belittle her pretty sizable role in the film's media attention and promotional activities is simply silly. Personally, I haven't seen any attention on the film in the media outside of Rihanna besides it's large budget...but that's beside the point.
And no, this is no different than Beyonce in Austin Powers lol. How do you even argue that with any substantial claim? Austin Power 3 sold itself on brand recognition, not Beyonce. Was Beyonce a contributing novely factor in potentially adding cushion - similar to Rihanna in Battleship? Sure.
Talk about reaching to argue otherwise.

That's why it's more debatable, but what isn't debatable to me is the fact that Beyonce was a more visible factor in the marketing for Austin Powers.
Maybe the marketing for Battleship is different in other countries, but I assure you that her presence has little to do with its appeal in the US, just like it is the case for pretty much every other action movie.
The marketing for Goldmember was pretty much "Hey, Austin Power's is back, now with BEYONCE!" I remember vividly how much a part of the marketing she was. I'm not saying she is why that film was successful either, but I definitely feel like she had more of a prominent starring role.

Like Transformers, Battleship is based on the megapopular Hasbro game, so it's an established brand. And the first thing you see on the Battleship poster and in the trailer as the transforming alien robot (which isn't even in the game ) rises from the sea is "from the producers of Transformers."
It's similar to how The Grudge played like the unofficial sequel to The Ring and rode its coattails to the #1 opening of all time for a horror film.

Thus far, Rihanna is AS visible as Beyonce was. I don't know what more proof you need then the constant trailers, the posters (even her very own one), she has two trailers where she's narrating the scene, the heavy media blitz overseas. She has been there every step of the way. The movie doesn't debut here in the U.S for another month, so the heavy promo hasn't even begun

Comparing a board game's success to a proven mega-successful film series' is SO unbelievably far from comparative...

But you guys brought up Bey being featured on a Poster and in this case, Rihanna is featured on multiple posters she is the primary female promotional tool for the movie's campaign

The point was that Battleship = Transformers on water like The Grudge = The Ring with Buffy.

I thought it was going to flop exactly for that.

Why? Transformers 3 made over $1.1 BILLION in theaters last year. There's a huge appetite for this kind of movie.

I never used posters as proof of anything, cuz they aren't. Narrating or not, none of the trailers have used Rihanna as a centerpiece for the appeal of the movie -- no action film would or could. They are sold on the action/storyline/effects.
Comedy is much more reliant on stars, Beyonce was heavily featured in the trailers for Austin Powers and was the undeniable female LEAD.
Interviews aren't proof of much, either, since no action film is going to live or die by them to anywhere near the extent that comedies will. And of course they will use Rihanna for that since it's stunt casting, much like Beyonce was in Goldmember, but it doesn't speak to the bottom line of what had more of an effect to bring audiences in to theaters.
