I don't know if I can speak for the general public when I say this but one thing that has put me off about Nicki is that there's no direction with this era. What is she trying to convey? All I see from her is weird and crazy outfits. She's just really trying super hard to be out there. Maybe people don't get what Roman Reloaded is suppose to be about?

Rihanna and Katy's sales are considered low because of how popular they are and how they never have a hard time scoring #1 after #1. Being able to score a #1 with every new single and still not being able to push albums are an exponential rate is why people consider their sales a flop.

Yes but it took TD two years to do so. Not many popstars reach that status in short periods of time

Despite having the most exposure, pop artists have some of the most mediocre sales. It's not that hard to get. The numbers are also terrible because she sold double with her first album, with much less hype and notoriety.

The pop side of Nicki's album won't help her sell as consistently as Katy's album, where there's a bit more diversity. Katy's music crossed over to AC; Nicki won't have that luxury. The songs on the pop side sound the same.

And this is United States sales. Nicki isn't nearly as big of a force as Katy or Rihanna overseas. She's a rapper, and that's what she should be trying to sell.

We're talking about her U.S. sales, so it's only fair to stick to the U.S. market. None of the aforementioned girls have spectacular sales with their latest efforts, despite massive singles preceding them (Rihanna with TTT, and Ke$ha and Cannibal). Even 2M for Katy, while obviously good, is still a bit shrug-worthy in the context of how successful her singles were and the sheer amount of exposure she had.

There's nothing wrong with the comparison. After all, if she's relying on radio hits for big sales, doesn't that mean she's "selling like a popstar?"
