Because the music isn't very good. Simple as.

The moment she went crazy and started wearing all of the crazy **** she does, her urban fanbase said "see ya".

Yeah, she must really hate pushing 200k albums and having half of her album in the top 100 on iTunes.

2. She didn't pick an audience to promote to. Pop audiences were clearly here for her, but she didn't capitalise on it. She still hasn't properly promoted Starships, aside from American Idol and the NBA show. She should be on all the daytime and primetime shows (Ellen, GMA, DWTS, etc.) promoting to pop audiences, but she hasn't been doing it. Instead, she's been focused on doing radio tour and TV specials for urban audiences, and it's contradicted the pop strategy she had going.
3. Simply put, her urban fans have abandoned her because she's gone pop. It sucks, but at the same time, it could be the wake up call for Nicki to just focus on what works, and push that.
Just to be clear - regardless of sales, Pop Nicki > Urban Nicki
Nicki is an international star because of her pop music. She is about to become the face of Pepsi because of her pop music. She is in all the major press because they see her as a popstar. Now the promo she employs needs to reflect that.
The album potentially has very good legs - it just needs to have its marketing focused on pop audiences.

Good for her for the pepsi promo that's actually what a lot of big stars have gotten but Urban Nicki is much better. She can't sing, therefore, she shouldn't be a pop singer. I honestly think its a fact she can't sing. I've yet to see her sing live well at all.

I thought DA SLAYER already spilled the tea about her being banned from the hood some threads ago? Let's not play dumb gerls.

She gave herself in to be one of the pop girls when Starships was released. And we know how all of them fare when it comes to album sales. Great album, still.

Yeah, she does, especially when she was so sure that this album would smash.

It's not like she's trying to out-do herself, just working off of it.
I think people are a little standoffish right now.
The pop half goes really hard into pop and the rap side goes hard into rap.
It doesn't really sit very nicely with fans, but I think it'll grow after they hear more stuff.
|
Just.... NO.
The Rap section is completely half-assed, save for one or two tracks like Champion & Beez In The Trap.
Anyway, it's really simple. She sacrificed her Urban fanbase for Mainstream success. That's all.
She'll continue to dominate iTunes like Katy Perry, Ke$ha and whomever, but her days as a consistent album seller are gone, unless she pulls her **** together.

Like Marina and the Diamonds , well, she didn't sell out she's always had a pop feel but you can tell shes coming for the charts now but in an amazing way. Primadonna and Radioactive are amazing songs, Primadonna being the more generic of the two imo.

That and the people who were there for here before aren't buying her new image.

I was expecting lower tbh,the material is trash.
Nicki failed to live up to the hype,her alter ego roman is somewhere missing because i have yet to hear a good track from him.

It's safe to call a smash when it's out-selling 90% of contemporaries, tbqh.

Sometimes it's so easy to get absorbed into ATRL buffoonery - it's only been 2 days into her album campaign, can't believe I'm defending her from people who think the era is already a complete flop.
Nobody knows whether this album will have legs, or what promotional strategy Cash Money will go ahead with - it could struggle to pass 1 million in the US, or by this time next year, could have outsold the first album. Nobody knows yet, so I'm out of these types of discussions. Ciao.

I, personally, wouldn't say lackluster but I'm pretty sure the title had a lartgepart to do with it. The title really screams re-release, so I'm fairly certain people thought as such. And people would like to say it's because she disowned her urban fan base, but I'd beg to differ. She released "Stupid Hoe" -- with an accompanying video might I add --, and "Roman Reloaded. Yes, they are buzz singles, but they were released.

Exactly. They've all become one in the same with several ticks on their albums being almost interchangeable. The "basic" girls of pop.

It surprises me you are confusing disappointing sales with poor sales.
Disappointing = not meeting expectations
Poor = not doing well
200,000 is very successful sales, just disappointing compared to her first one.

200k is quite the opposite of a smash when the album is supposed to be a huge movement in hip hop.
This will be a huge blow to her ego.
