You didn't know Nicki is the biggest female rapper .....EVER. Who else could cross over from rap to pop with ONE album?? Her sales should be a lot higher.
Just shows it isnt just Katy and Rih. If you become pop, you cant sell as much.
I don't think that's true. If you don't alienate your core fanbase, you can have high debuts. In Rihanna's case, she just doesn't have a hyper stanbase that goes out and gets the album the first week its out. Nicki seems to have alienated hers.

Yup, a commercial that got repeatedly played on TV as compared to somebody barely getting camera time for more than a few seconds.
I think the final numbers can be even lower. Last night they predicted MDNA's sales pretty well but sometimes albums end up selling less than their estimates.

Back than , female rap sold much less and it was 10X harder for a female rapper, its much more easy to come now : after kim , trinna ,missy , eve ,shawnna, etc.
Those are pop singers, with original pop followings. Nicki has appealed to a whole new field, and is obviously having trouble trying to appeal to both crowds. You can't count a 15 second feature on the super bowl as big promo. Oh yes, I bet all the people who didn't know her before were so excited to learn about her as she held pom-poms next to Madonna.
You can twist and turn it all you want. The fact is that people are not here for Nicki as a pop singer.
