And she's stated quite often how much she felt that that wasn't her. That that was what she thought she was supposed to be as a female rapper. Technically, that would be more of the "selling out" point being that "selling out" tends to mean to conform (keyword) to a certain image/perception so you can become more successful ("Anyone who sacrifices artistic integrity in an effort to become more successful or popular") IF YOU REALLY WANNA THINK ABOUT IT. She came in as a rapper on total unfamiliar grounds as she was initially a singer and actor, wanted to be successful so she followed the 1-2-3 step female rapper formula but just couldn't ****ing do it knowing that she wanted to incorporate all her other attributes in it. And ever since she left that behind and stated that, she has never went back on her word.

Honestly, if she wanted to incorporate pop I doubt anyone would be saying what they are now if it was in style like superbass. Perfect blend of rap and pop.

But I mean, the second half of the album is a complete joke. Some of the songs are great, but not for Nicki.

Kim was popular from 1995-2005, I think in the industry (especially for a female rapper) that's impressive. And you can't compare sales of a female hip hop rapper (Kim), to a bubble gum pop act (Nicki) who raps once every blue moon.

I don't like rapping unless it's free style or as fast as lets say busta ryhmes, or if t he lyrics are good. Otherwise it's plain talking over a beat. Nicki talks over beats and nothing more, she can't even catch up live. I'm just telling my truthful opinion

She can do whatever she wants to do. It's her music, and she obviously wants to reach multiple audiences.

But pop fans are extremely fickle, so she shouldn't expect to keep their attention for too long.

Well, now people are less reluctant when it comes to embracing SB, but back when it was smashing, everyone did the same thing they are doing now. The point is, if Nicki succeeds with a pop song over a hip-hop song, she'll be identified as a sell-out to some folk. The reason why Im not happy at all with the direction she went for with these pop song is because they aren't unique to her, not because it's 'selling-out.'

To put this into perspective for you, many people say the same about your fave. Take that into consideration when criticizing Nicki. You of course will more than likely defend gaga because you followed journey the same way I've followed Nicki's. So are both are faves sell-outs and contradict themselves? Just Nicki? Just Gaga? Neither?

I don't think only platinum albums are considered "hot" during the time of diamond certifications, sis. She wasn't worldwide hot, boo.

Nicki is going to outlast Lil Kim. I don't think she's going to be a rapper all the way through though. She's a different breed from other female rappers. She's pop. She's hip. She's relevant. She's smart. She knows the market and reinvention is the key to success.

But even before the fame she was doing pop. Even Red & Blue was a singer-songwriters pop album.

Yes she's different, but not genre's different. Artists can change, look at rihannas first album compared to now. Still not as drastic as nicki's transformation in just 2 albums.

But the main difference is that gaga seems to be moving towards a more genuine artistry (or at least trying to) while nicki seems to be doing just the opposite. She seems to be moving more towards Katy perry status

I mean will I see her on nickalodean or teen Disney soon?
