Shakira had already scored a huge global hit with "Hips Don't Lie."
Anyways, I think it was unnecessary for Katy Perry to mention "Beautiful Liar" as if it's some kind of inferior work. Sure, the song itself is not very good, but it was a perfect collaboration, as evidenced by how well Beyonce and Shakira played off of each other in the video. They really did look like sisters, as if they were meant to perform together.
