Madonna can sing & dance, she's not a great vocalist (and she knows this) but she can sing and she can dance. In 1976 she even enrolled as a ballet student at the University of Michigan and her choreographers have praised her dancing ability and it's evident in her performances. (IF you're educated about her, unlike most in this thread.)
Madonna likes to push people's buttons and piss them the **** off but she has her political reasons, she's a risk taker and has always pushed the limits like NO other artist has before. Madonna has balls and is a fearless artist, never afraid to go against the norm. To try and discredit her like that's a bad thing and shade her like she has no talent is ********.
Ignoring the fact that Stevie can obviously sing, is this not a good performance?
If singing and dancing are everything, why do artists use visuals in their shows? What's the point of showmanship? Why have stage presence? Why have stage command? Who needs to learn from their experiences on stage since all you need to do is show up and sing and dance to be considered a great performer?
It's good. However There are things that some people have that others don't. You Can't teach what stevie did. He has the ability to captivate his audience through his instrumentation. That is a gift. I feel the same way about showmanship and stage presence. It has to already be there IMO. You can work on the skills that you already possess to become greater but if it's not there then...IMO Madonna just isn't IT.
And when you go see Madonna you go to see the production. Just like when you go to see Beyonce, you're going for vocals and showmanship.
Exactly, which is why Beyoncé is the better performer aka the person you go to see perform.
If you go to see Madonna's production, where does that leave Madonna as a performer aka the person performing?
Well that's going to be difficult because the value of 'good' performances is usually subjective.
See and that's true. That's why I suggest we bring it to its lowest factor and see that:
Dance = Bey
Sing = Bey
Visuals = Madonna
There's not much else past that. Some people think visuals >>>>>> dance/sing, but the fact still stands Bey dominates two out of the three arguably most important factors of a good performance.
I dont use popstars for vision in live performing. If I want to see that, I could go to Broadway or sneak into Lady Gagas bedroom while shes having sex. That's what the music video was invented for, so you can show all you have to offer in an artistic way.
When you touch a stage I better see hair flipping and hear vocals booming.

I'm done here tho.
If the visuals are truly stunning, if they pull you into the performance, if you truly are blown away by them... I could see that being better than Singing/Dancing for some.
Thats the basis, and if you disagree then you clearly know nothing like you claim you do.
Singers get on stage and sing.
Actors get on set and act.
Dancers get on stage and dance.
Madonna is a singer.
Beyonce is a singer.
Madonna did not always use elaborate sets, thats something she started doing when her first tour bombed.
And it is because of someone like Madonna who has redefined "performing" for the modern pop world. Madonna was using visuals before her first tour. It was evident in her videos.
And thats fine, but that was not what the thread was based on nor was it my original point.
REGARDLESS of what one does to perform or how they do it, I still made the point that Beyonce (whose talent is singing and dancing) does it better than everyone else.
My point stands against:
Madonna (who does yoga and swings from trees)
Janet (who whispers and dances amazingly)
Rihanna (who gives Victorias Secret sex shows)
Gaga (who comes on her period for applause)
Britney (who shows us why drugs are not good for us)
etc.
Kylie is amazing though, I watched her do something with some water and some circus people.

EXACTLY! Madonna has gotten MUCH better visually from where she began to where she is now. Shock value or not, she can still captivate her audience, i.e. "Vogue" at Superbowl.
I praised the song though, the performance was aight.
Hmm.

SHE PERFORMED, she PUT ON A SHOW, and she GOT MOUTHS MOVING! It was theatrical, it was NEW, FRESH, INNOVATIVE, and while there will obviously be comparisons to Gaga, I don't think any can really be drawn.
She ENTERTAINED, she SHOCKED us, CONFUSED us, and most of all she gave us LIFE! If she ever had anything left to prove SHE JUST DID IT!

Not on tour she wasn't.
And she didn't redefine anything because no one tries to copy all that **** on stage. No one even has time to get all that mess together for a 6 minute performance at an award show.
No one copies her on tour either, she does her thing and they do theirs. People do however try their very best to serve Beyonce lite since they are forced to watch her perform her wig off.
Bottom line is you would rather go see a movie when you're supposed to be at a damn concert.

This goes back to comparing their strengths. Case and point, last page, this video was posted:
Obviously this video is highlighting Beyonce's singing and dancing.
Okay, let's flip it. Find me a Beyonce performance that's as visually stunning as this:
You have to compare HOW the artists perform, not just "raw ability".

As soon as the tour was announced, tickets were sold out almost everywhere. In San Francisco, tour shirts were selling at a clocked rate of one every six seconds. All 17,672 tickets for Madonna's show at New York City's Radio City Music Hall were completely sold out in a record-breaking 34 minutes.Both the shows at Chicago's UIC Pavilion were sold in a single day with a record breaking 18,000 tickets being sold. In Philadelphia, record breaking 31,000 tickets were sold in under four hours. Along with ticket sales, merchandise associated with the tour also sold rapidly. T-shirts, posters and promo-magazines featuring Madonna's image were picked up by the fans, even though most them were overpriced compared to the market value. After its end, the Virgin Tour was reported to have grossed over $5 million with an audience of 222,905 people.
