Who, among today's popular recording artists, will stand the test of time?

Who will continue to rake in the cash from radio spins in 20 years on the "oldies" and "hits of the 2000s" channels?

Who will be forgotten as time goes on and trends change?

What songs that failed to impact radio in their time could make a comeback once the listening audience has matured a few decades? What songs and artists will be "cool" older musicians, and who will the kids be flat out embarrassed by when their parents play them in the car?

I always wonder about this too. I think a lot of songs that aren't necessarily big hits now will get recognition before then and be considered classics.

I also know that a lot of songs ATRL considers classics are not classics.

You're going to have provide more specifics than that!

I think Beyonce will have a large place on classic radio in the future. I can see a few songs from 4 that were not enormous successes in their time achieving pretty regular play. 1+1 or I Was Here would fit right in as representations of ballads from the 2000s. I think Single Ladies, Crazy In Love, and Halo will be her most frequent classics rotations.

B'Day won't get as much radio station, but it'll be the really "cool" album to own.

Crazy in Love, Naughty Girl, Irreplaceable, Single Ladies, 1+1, Countdown, etc. are already classics. I can definitely see a lot of these in heavy rotation for decades.

Beyonce's radio hits will be played forever and the public will eventually consider '4' her best work.
Lady Gaga will be iconic on radio; I can't think of anything that would be left out honestly.
Rihanna, well, clearly she isn't leaving radio anytime soon.

I have a feeling big radio hits now won't be as remembered as defining. I know that sounds weird but most huge radio hits are very safe and aren't very definitive of their place in culture.

ET, Firework, Bad Romance, Poker Face, Party Rock Anthem, Umbrella and We Found Love will be remembered for generations. All are unique and stand out in some way.

That's what AC stations are for. They have a heavy list of 'oldies but goodies.' I don't see too many of the dance hits getting as much play on those stations, but they may get those every-so-often spins on pop radio. I mean, my pop radio station has "Ice Ice Baby" on its playlist and plays it at noon some days.

Among dance hits, I can see IGAF, PRA, Poker Face, Tik Tok, California Gurls, and GME (seriously, even old people today love the hell out of this song) getting heavy rotation.
