You're about 20-30-40+ years too late on the "black people shouldn't use it" fight, guys. The word has already been re-appropriated, it's really too late to change that. It's successfully taken on a second meaning in hip-hop culture, similar to how queer and **** have been re appropriated amongst gay culture.

It's not a simple matter of "Black people can use it, and white people can't," it's a matter of context. Like I said, no one gets offended at me for saying the word within the CONTEXT of a hip-hop song I'm rapping along to.

I was referring to the fallacy of "oh well, that's just the way it is" which can be applied to literally any situation in a debate. Well, I usually hate to mix issues when they're only vaguely applicable to one another, but I guess I'll go for it.

Words like bitch, ******, and so on are all derogatory. I personally don't get where the illusion that it's okay to say either one because you happen to be the target it's typically directed at comes from. A lot of it, I will attest, has to do with the tone. It's usually not meant harmfully when a "target" uses it against another "target", but that's not always true ("Stupid Hoe" and see below). I just think we need to sit down and think about the things we say and their meaning.

Hitting anyone is assault whether you're a man hitting a women or a women hitting a man. I think society has come to deal with that in the right way.

Ooo. Now this is getting interesting. Just because you don't realize it's there doesn't mean it isn't. Blacks do INDEED use it in a racist manner to each other. It has been slowly revealed to me as I've became more exposed to the blacks in my community that the word remains to be an internalization of racism.

Contrary to popular belief, its usage isn't limited to a friendly greeting. It has retained its foul past. Till this day, the word continues to be a term of subordination used to describe an ignorant or stupid person in some context. I mean is "nappy headed *****" a friendly greeting?

Not only can blacks be "******s", other races can qualify as "******s" when they do senseless things.

Besides, all the blacks I know don't give a **** about the word, and don't see it as a problem. Just kinda shows ignorance when blacks act as if only they can say the word.

I would have to disagree , even though black people aren't exactly being racist with one another using the word the word itself was used to mock black people back in the day so aren't they technically mocking themselves using it, despite whatever reason they are using the word today its history cannot be denied.

So instead of being concerned about people who are offended by the word, we're going to mount a campaign to erase the backlash against people who use it, sometimes in a derogatory fashion?

When you offend a group of people or say something to a person of a certain race or nationality that could be viewed as offensive, prepare for a backlash. No, I'm not going to condemn that.
