Think about this. If you're a cop, wanting to catch a drug dealer. Will you scream about it on the thug's face that you're about to send his ass to jail, or silently dragging his ass to the deepest hole on earth?
Or maybe if you couldn't find him, you'd post pictures of said criminal in public places and distribute his information all throughout the local news to raise awareness? But that's too far fetched.
Summary from ArrianaMarie on Twitter: #Kony2012 #StopKony misrepresents N. Uganda, spreads misinformation abt Kony/the LRA, denies Africans' agency & is imperialist. If you'd like to support a community-based org in N. Uganda, I suggest Concerned Children & Youth Ass'n http://bit.ly/zuyU4J or Art for Children http://bit.ly/wEkYaV or Children Chance Int'l, founded by an ex-child soldier http://bit.ly/w8WH9V
Is it also not suspicious to you people that they're marketing this charity through YouTube and FaceBook.. 2 sites used predominately by teenagers and young-adults?
Awareness and visibility are good, but make sure you have context on who you're donating to and/or supporting. This organization isn't necessarily "pure."

That's technically who charities usually target since that's the new generation and it spreads the fastest through those sites. Incredibly smart tbh. That's how Obama was able to win.

Anyone who knows how to read a financial report will explain to you that if on this information alone you believe them to be a scam you are an idiot.
Just because a company holds assets doesn't show it to be profiting from them like some "evil conglomerate". If one year you donate £20 to me and I spend £10 on projects etc and leave the other £10 in the bank this doesn't mean I am keeping the £10 it just means I haven't spent it yet.
If I was earmarking it for operating profit this would have to be declared on my financial report as per any other expense.
Would you rather they waste the remaining £10 on something that didn't help anyone just so In = Out or save it for another day/expense that can make a change?
$13,765,177 IN
$8,894,630 OUT
$4,870,547 REMAINING ASSETS.
This amount is therefore not "PROFIT" it is held assets.
As for your claim they spent more on cameras and films than the kids this is wrong - on the Central Africa Project alone almost 1/3 of the expenditure was in scholarships to put children through school.
As for your allegation they refuse to allow external auditors can you please explain on what grounds you make this claim? I couldn't find anything to support this statement.
Furthermore the company are registered as an NPO - to do this they aren't legally allowed to make a profit and are held to strict accountable guidelines enforced by law. There has not been a claim brought against them for breach of this either.
I suggest you do some research before trying to tarnish the reputation of a reputable organisation trying to do good in the world and instead of fabricating wild accusations encourage their work and aim to do some good in the world.
I am in no way affiliated with this charity but respect the work they are doing and would hope others do the same - especially if they are too lazy to do anything about the atrocities in this world themselves or too ignorant to form an opinion of their own based on fact.
If you read the financial report it actually shows a breakdown of total expenditure with 80.54% going directly into programmes and 19.46% going in to Fundraising and Management/General Expenses. There is no profit made. As with all other large charities there are administrative costs involved - fund management, accountancy etc all have costs.
If you look at service expenditures on staffing/advertising etc for any major charity this will always mean that not 100% of a donation goes directly to a program (but does go to the cause) as they, like any other corporation cannot run without any overheads.
The $4.8 million mentioned in this post isn't a "profit" at all it is a remaining net income and the rest is all spent. Profit is defined as "A financial gain; the difference between the amount earned and the amount spent in buying, operating, or producing something" so in this case the profit is $4.9m. So if this WERE a profit making organisation this amount would be divided by shareholders (if a PLC) stakeholders or investors and defined as a cost. As it isn't this money will simply be held as a financial asset in a bank until it is required or spent.
While they could run off with the money in the bank and be guilty this hasn't happened nor is it likely to - until this happens I really can't see a problem in supporting them or the cause that they support.
Some people actually want to make a positive impact in the world and don't do things just for the sake of money - why not celebrate this instead of being negative.

On one side are the cynics and on the other side are the temporary do-gooders.
It's unbecoming to bash a charity that is providing monetary help, albeit in amounts you think is far too small; but it's equally unbecoming to support the charity for the duration of its trendiness. If it were me, I'd support UN non-profits and IC. The former seems more straight to the point charity help while the latter brings the awareness with OPTIONAL donations.
What's the point of a charity or the issue they are ameliorating if there isn't mass awareness.

What's hilarious is a vast majority of people criticizing the "temporary do-gooders" are those that read one anti-IC article and are now suddenly experts the whole subject. Frankly, it kind of reeks of people who feel the need to oppose anything gaining popularity on principle, and willing to latch on to the first possible explanation they can find to validate that.
IC is not perfect, but as people have pointed out already, many of the arguments against them do not hold weight when actually examined closely.
Lol @ you guys. I'm sorry I don't have every charity in the world memorized. If you're seriously concerned and would consider donating to them I could go find some reputable ones for you.
We're not asking you to have "Every charity in the world" memorized. We're asking you to name literally ONE other charity. The fact that you can't even do that proves you're just as uneducated about the issue as any one else. Reading one article doesn't make you smarter than someone who watched one 30 minute video.

Our generation is an odd one.
From my take, IC is a charity utilizing the most effective means of getting their name out, which in turn gets the issue across. Their unorthodox approach shouldn't be so panned.

I mean, they're giving people shitloads of ways to spread the message without donating to them at all. They're not making it "Invisible Children 2012," it's "Kony 2012," and any organization that is against the oppressive regimes in Africa is able to capitalize on it if they so wish.

Yes, but the information they're spreading isn't going to give people actual awareness. It's just a whole load of half-truths and borderline propaganda.

You think that lying shouldn't be panned?

The campaign may be Kony 2012, but that video was clearly just as much about the charity and the man behind it. I mean, the part with his son and the stupid special effects.
