Madonna's Post-Super Bowl Slide; Adele's 'Rumour' Returns
The Billboard 200
It was all about Adele on the Billboard 200 and Hot 100 charts this week.
The British singer's "21" album, fresh off the her six Grammy Award wins on Feb. 12, spent its 21st week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, selling a massive 730,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. With so much focus on the annual Grammy broadcast, it would seem no one wanted to risk releasing a new album that might get lost in the shuffle. So not a single debut is found among the top 50 of the Billboard 200 this week.
We already recapped the top 10 on the chart this week in earlier stories, so let's look at some of the movers and shakers farther down the list:
--
Whitney Houston: The late Whitney Houston has two of the three biggest jumps on the Billboard 200 this week. Her "The Preacher's Wife" soundtrack runs 183-90 (up 93 slots) and "I Look To You" flies 118-65 (up 53 positions). "The Preacher's Wife" sold 7,000 (up 46%), while "I Look To You" did 9,000 (up 81%).
Houston, who died on Feb. 11, sold a collected 247,000 albums last week (ending Feb. 19) -- the first full sales week after her death. Her biggest seller was "Whitney: the Greatest Hits," with 175,000 (up 174%).
Overall, Houston's albums earned a 144% sales increase in the week ending Feb. 19, compared to the 101,000 sold in the week ending Feb. 12. In terms of digital track sales, her songs moved 1.5 million last week, up 65% compared to the week earlier (887,000).

- Madonna: Now that the diva's Super Bowl halftime performance on Feb. 5 is well behind us, her "Celebration" greatest hits album takes the second-largest positional drop on the chart. It falls 105 slots from No. 52 last week to No. 157 this week (4,000 sold; down 63%). The biggest fall on the chart belongs to Brian Courtney Wilson's "So Proud," which collapses 44-181 (down 137 rungs) with 4,000 (down 69%). The tumble isn't surprising, as Wilson is a gospel singer, and many Christian and gospel albums see big falls in their second week on the list. Many religious albums are front-loaded in terms of sales, so they collapse quite quickly and disappear from the tally.

Deadmau5: The second-largest increase on the chart -- in terms of positional leap -- is the dance/electronic act's "4X4=12," which vaults 152-70 (up 82 notches). The Grammy Awards performer -- who collaborated with Foo Fighters in the electronic dance music segment of the telecast -- sold 9,000 copies of the album last week (up 124%).

Amos Lee: "As the Crow Flies," the singer-songwriter's six-song collection of previously unreleased material, is the chart's highest new entry this week. It takes a bow at No. 67 with 9,000 sold.
The Billboard Hot 100
As previously reported, Katy Perry's "Part of Me" rockets in at the Billboard Hot 100 summit, while Adele, the late Whitney Houston, Nicki Minaj and Chris Brown all make notable news in the chart's top 10. Who else is a part of the chart's biggest action this week? Read on…
-- Madonna: Last week, "Give Me All Your Luvin'" gained by 44% in download sales to 165,000, according to Nielsen SoundScan, with that chart week's sales tracking period encompassing the first full week following her performance of the song at the Super Bowl on Feb. 5. Sales drop off sharply this week, as "Luvin'" tumbles 10-39 on the Hot 100. The cut, featuring Minaj and M.I.A., falls 6-23 on Hot Digital Songs (69,000, down 58%). After bowing on Hot 100 Airplay at No. 28 two weeks ago, the song has since plunged to No. 59 last week and No. 63 this week.
-- Bruno Mars: After he performed the frenetic "Runaway Baby" at the 54th Grammy Awards on Feb. 12, the song bounds onto the Hot 100 at No. 50. In the first full sales tracking week following the telecast, the song storms Hot Digital Songs at No. 33 (67,000).
-- Adele: "Rumour Has It," the fourth single from "21" to be promoted to pop and adult radio, re-enters the Hot 100 at No. 67. Fueled by Adele's six Grammy Award wins, it returns to Hot Digital Songs at No. 51 (50,000, up 118%).
-- "Glee" cast: As Houston's classic "I Will Always Love You," which topped the Hot 100 for 14 weeks in 1992-93, rises 7-3, the TV troupe's version arrives at No. 87 with 36,000 downloads sold. Coincidentally, the song (sung by Amber Riley) was already set to air in the series' Feb. 14 Valentine's Day episode before Houston died on Feb. 11. The remake is the cast's 59th charted cover of a former Hot 100 No. 1.
-- Whitney Houston: Interesting how quickly radio decided to move on following the legend's passing, despite continued consumer demand for her music. While her version of "Always" is the Hot 100's Greatest Gainer/Digital (367,000, up 89%), the song falls from its No. 61 Hot 100 Airplay re-entry last week to off the chart this week (eight million audience impressions, down a robust 57%). Similar sales/radio disparities show for her other songs, including "I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)," which jumps by 78% to 132,000 downloads sold but tumbles by 53% to 6 million in radio audience.
