"Human Nature" was written as a response to the media backlash Madonna suffered after the release of
Erotica and the Sex book. It uses a sample from the song "What You Need", by the Hip Hop group Main Source.
It was released as the 4th single off
Bedtime Stories. It was not very successful - it didn't even break the Top 40 in the US and stayed away from the Top 10 in many countries. However, it peaked at #8 in the UK.
She performed it live twice - one at the Drowned World Tour, while riding a mechanical bull; the other at the Sticky & Sweet Tour, with a backdrop video featuring Britney Spears in an elevator. The first one is good, the other is not.
The video is one of her most well-known ones. It features Madonna again as a dominatrix, but this time in a self-parodying, funny way. There's a guest star in the video: her chihuahua Chiquita, also dressed in black leather. Only a bad bitch.
"Human Nature", as I said, is one of my favorite songs off
Bedtime Stories, and I gave it a 9 - but I think it was already time for it to go.
