Well, it all really messed up with Judas, tbh. The song had a lot against it. Born This Way was obviously still in the public's mind a lot in April, and was only dropping for about a week when they released "Judas", so there's that. Than you have the Easter release date + the overall religious controversy from the song. It barely had any promo (I believe it's only two performances in it's proper era were Ellen and Graham Norton), and with a song like this, lots of promo is needed. TEOG killed it, when it was growing on Pop radio and rising on iTunes. Plus, the performances were a little bit sucky due to the hard choreography of the song.

Tbh, "Judas" is mainly what ruined it all, although hype+image+single timing also ruined it. I believe if "Judas" was more successful, and the singles that were supposed to be released after it (MTN and Hair, in that order) were released, the BTW would be drastically different than what is turned out to be.

I dont consider Born This Way a flp, but deaf this album did not as good as teh Fame Monster.

I think that eveyone was expecting a lot of this album, it was a mistake of Gaga to call this album the Album of the decade, when preview albums were better.
I think that she actually release the best 5 songs from the album & actually the songs that i like from this album + Hair!

& Adele destroy everyone last year

Big mistakes of this era:
+ The Edge of Glory video this was so close to be #1 in all countries but the video was terrible
+ A lot of jesus & religious things in all songs
+ Born This Way Tour would begin so late
+ Born This Way album at $0.99

But yes, people put too much in store in music videos. Only natural though when you release sublime videos that are Bad Romance, Telephone, and Alejandro.

However, the hype was still huge. She overhyped it months before it even came out. When you make hype like that, you better deliver.

Ummm... the answer is easy.

Because she said it was going to be the album for this generation, and it turned out to be a mediocre pop album, worse than The Fame and TFM. She overhyped it wayyyy too much.

Half of the albums on the album sound like recycled songs from 80's and 90's pop singers. The only good songs on the album didn't get proper promotion and she didn't go full out with her plan to experiment.

Bloody Mary and Heavy Metal Lover are GENIUS songs. They are experimental and different from was she had done in the past. An album full of songs like this would have changed the music industry if she actually took a risk and executed it all the way.

Also, AMERICANO would have been amazing as a ballad, but she added those corny electro synch elements to it. Every song on the album with the exception of BM, HML, and Y&I had way too much going on and took away from the songs.

Nah, radio doesn't play songs depending on whether the video is good or not.
Radio plays a huge role in whether or not a song is successful

Hmm, when the project was first announced I thought she'd do very well to sell 2.2m in the US and 6m WW. So, it hasn't really disappointed as far as my sales expectations went.

As far as the impact of her singles went, that's a different story.
